My Love Story

So this blog has obviously been neglected, but I will be working on that in the near future. Other things are more important right now, but I wanted to take part in Wordfull Wednesday over at Chocolate on my Cranium. So here is my love story.

This month for our family newsletter our topic was to tell about how we met our spouse. It was fun reading everyone's story and read Aaron's side of the story. But I neglected to write my side of things, so I'm going to now.

It was a beautiful Sunday afternoon in August that I found myself in Don Medina's backyard for a BBQ with the majority of my ward. Our ward boundaries had just changed and Don found himself placed in a new ward, so this was just a way of getting together with lots of friends. I sat down with some friends and just visited all the while noticing this cute boy with a beard whose name happened to be Aaron. He was a friend of Amy Crider and she had brought him along. (Later on, Don and Aaron would become friends, but Aaron really didn't know Don at the time). We talked very briefly but nothing more. I left the BBQ feeling a little disappointed that I didn't come away with a date with Aaron, but thought to myself, if things are going to happen they will, and if not it wasn't meant to be.(Aaron loves big ties. Only now, is he not wearing these big ties. In fact, he just gave the majority of them away to the elder's serving in our ward and to DI).

Time went on, and I remember seeing Aaron another time at a fireside probably in September, maybe October. I was already on my way out when I saw him, but I was going to go say hi. However we was visiting with his ex-fiance, so I decided against the idea.(This picture was taken long before we knew each other, but we were at Ricks College at the same time and even had a class with my roommate)

The beginning of November in 2004, Amy, the same friend who took Aaron to the BBQ, was having the missionaries over for dinner and invited a bunch of girls over to eat too. And realizing it was a bunch of girls, she invited Aaron to be there since it is against the rules for the missionaries to be alone with a bunch of girls. I had planned on helping a friend that night but was feeling a little weird so I ended up staying home. In fact I almost didn't even go over to Amy's but I think my roommate called me and told me to come on over. So I went. I was excited to see this boy there, but I couldn't remember his name for the life of me. We talked a little bit that night and as I went to leave Aaron asked my name again. (He tells me he was going to walk me out to my car so he could ask me out then but Amy was talking to him so he couldn't). We said our goodbyes and I left.

Meanwhile my roommate was having computer issues and Aaron offered to help. So after Aaron helped Hilary out, he began asking about me. In fact, it was Hilary who asked me if I wanted to go out with Aaron on our first day, which took place on November 12, 2004. Hilary then gave me his number so I could call him and we could work out the details.

I called Aaron and we had a fun time talking. He made fun of me because my feet were so cold I had to run them under hot water to warm them up when we were talking that night.

Our first day was November 12. I met him at his place where he made me dinner and took me out to a movie, The Incredibles. We didn't want to end the date at that, so we went back to his place and talked and ended up watching another movie and talked some more. It was so simple but so fun and I did not want to leave.

There is an adage When it rains, it pours. And it seemed to start pouring around the time Aaron and I went the first time. I all the sudden had a lot of guys asking me out. And I enjoyed most of those dates, there was one really weird one, but I really just wanted to be with Aaron. So after Thanksgiving, I decided I just wanted to date Aaron.(On our honeymoon, in Zion National Park, hiking up Angel's Landing)

For Christmas that year, we both went home to share the holiday with our family's. As it turns out, my parents only live an hour or so away from his parents. So he came up to meet my family and go to church with us. He immediately won my mom over when he went up and hugged her the first time he saw her. He met everyone in church that day too! In priesthood, my former bishop from my teens, leaned over to him and said something along the lines of, "We all love Laura, and if you ever hurt her, you better watch out." This really made an impression on Aaron. And I think a few people realized Aaron was a keeper that day. That night I went and met Aaron's parents. (I had met a handful of his siblings at Thanksgiving when they were stranded in Colorado).

In January Aaron and I were exchanging kisses for I love you's when instead of saying I love you he said Marry me. I was a little taken a back, but knew that I didn't want to live life without him so I said okay. But I never considered ourselves engaged because of what happened in a previous relationship. So we continued courting.

In March of 2005 Aaron asked me to marry him with the most perfect ring. It was a beautiful Saturday filled with blue skies and warmth. That morning I spent at a stake Relief Society brunch and was excited to see Aaron later on in the day. We decided to take a walk in the park. There were so many people there. It was just really nice. But for one reason or another we came back to my apartment relatively quickly. It was there that Aaron dropped down on one knee to ask me to marry him. I obviously said yes, and he cried a little. (Sorry Aaron). And on May 21, 2005 we were sealed in the Logan Utah Temple for time and all eternity and continue to be each others' best friend and live our happily ever after story.
Our wedding day!

And just for fun, here is what Aaron wrote in his family newsletter:

We met at a barbecue that one of our mutual friends was holding. We didn’t talk much then, but noticed each other. A little while later another one of our mutual friends, Amy, was having some friends and the Missionaries over for dinner and realized it was a bunch of girls so she needed a guy there since the Missionaries were coming. She called me, asked me if I wanted to have dinner with a bunch of girls, so naturally I said yes! I definitely noticed Laura that night and kept trying to talk to her but even as she was getting ready to leave, Amy kept interrupting my stalk and I wasn’t able to get Laura’s info. However, her roommate had mentioned she was having computer problems so I called her up to help her out and get some info on Laura. While talking to her roommate I made it clear I wanted to ask Laura out and she said, “I’ll ask her right now” and did (and because of this Laura loves telling people that I had her roommate ask her out for me). Luckily Laura said yes and I got her number so we could talk without a middle-man involved. We went on our first date in November 2004, but Laura was also dating multiple other guys so I had to divvy up my time with others who were also trying to win her over. Luckily she realized she was wasting her time with the other guys and told them to take a hike. We dated for a couple more months and realized quickly that we wanted to make the relationship permanent and started discussing the possibility of getting married. I called her parents and got their permission to ask Laura to marry me and tried thinking of how I wanted to ask her. The ring wasn’t done at the jeweler’s when I thought it would be and the day I had planned to ask her they finally finished it and I had one of my roommates drive out to pick it up and leave it in my car. We went for a walk (and I got the ring out of my car before we left) to a park next to Laura’s apartment where I had planned on proposing. We walked through the park a lot as we were dating so it was a very comfortable place for me, and a bonus was that there was hardly ever anybody at the park. Unfortunately for me, the park was packed that day so I didn’t propose on our walk. We got back to her apartment and talked for a bit and she left the room (don’t remember why), and when she came back to the living room I was on one knee and held her hand and asked her to marry me. She, fortunately for me, said yes and has been living the dream ever since.

Resolution

Here I am working on my New Years resolution of becoming a better photographer. I came across My3BoyBarbarians blog and thought I could participate. So here I am with a new blog and posting. Go me!Here is Purple working on one of her resolutions. She wants to help Mommy and Daddy cook, and she is determined to help as much as possible.

I know I have a long way to go as a photographer, but I have to start somewhere. Hopefully some awesome pictures will be posted in the later months.
